Prevention Institute's approach to eliminating health disparities focuses on advancing a deeper understanding of how fundamental causes of disparity, (e.g., economics and oppression) shape community environments and these environments, in turn, shape underlying determinants of health and illness.

The California Endowment – Disparities in Health

By focusing on social and physical environments, the California Endowment aims to prevent disease and injury and eliminate conditions that lead to health disparities. Under this goal the California Endowment funds proposals that seek to provide the knowledge and skills to change unhealthy behaviors and to change the social and physical environments that contribute to those unhealthy behaviors.
