California Delivery Association (CDA)
Challenge/Goal
Develop relationships within the State Capitol and Capital Community and help to advance legislation or policy towards a modernized Motor Carrier Permit (MCP) to create greater flexibility for industry.
Efforts
Developed an aggressive campaign to build stronger relationships between CDA leadership and members both in the Capitol and at the local level. Efforts included: first-ever Lobby Day in Sacramento, comprehensive district office outreach effort, legislative committee testimony, and regular “walk the halls” efforts with CDA board members and activists. Also helped to coordinate meetings with Director of DMV and her team, CHP legislative advocates and senior members of Governor’s Office and State Transportation Agency. Worked over two-year cycle to initiate efforts for educating leaders and defining steps towards development of modernized MCP policy.
Outcome
Significantly greater presence within State Capitol, relationships built with officials and staff, more visibility in the media around key issues, and landmark efforts in 2017 and 2018 for legislation to modernize MCP.
